A Rough Guide to the Universal Council 2024

I had the honor of creating the animations for the project "A Rough Guide to the Universal Council" for the artist Stine Marie Jacobsen. I designed and animated the characters according to the script from Stine Marie Jacobsen and Teobaldo Lagos Preller.

The Project was shown at "The Curse of an Unstoppable Appetite" - Greenlight Triennial, from 12 September - 20 October 2024 at Telemark kunstsenter curated by Power Ekroth.

Greenlight 2024 thematizes earth, and in more concrete terms the establishment of a new mine for the extraction of rare earth elements (REE) at Fensfeltet in Ulefoss, a few kilometres north of Grenland. Geologists have concluded that this occurrence of REE is the largest known in Europe, and the EU is pushing to fast-track the commencement of extraction.

Since 2016, artist Stine Marie Jacobsen has been developing an art project called @law_shifters, focusing on global law by involving people in reevaluating court cases and drafting their own laws. In the Law Shifters project, which has operated in several countries including Chile, Denmark, Lebanon, Norway, Sweden, Greenland, Ukraine, and the UK, Jacobsen recently embarked on an abstracted juridical form for the first time.

For the Greenlight Festival, Jacobsen has worked with local people on radically imagining (in non-human form) new juridical systems and discussing whether mining should be allowed.
